Obesity
05.09.06 (11:27 pm)   [edit]

Obesity is not a simple condition of eating too much. It is now recognized that obesity is a serious, chronic disease. No human condition — not race, religion, gender, ethnicity or disease state — compares to obesity in prevalence and prejudice, mortality and morbidity, sickness and stigma.Obesity is not a sign of a person being out of control. It is a serious medical disease that affects over a quarter of adults in the United States, and about 14% of children and adolescents. It is the second leading cause of preventable death after smoking.
Think about these questions:

- How do genes, environment and behavior explain obesity?

- How do our bodies regulate our weight?

- Why do some countries or certain ethnic and racial groups have higher rates of obesity than others?

- Who is to blame: the individual, TV, fast foods?

I'm not sure that I totally agree with Obesity being a disease. I have battled the bulge almost my entire life. Folks need to learn to put the shovel down and get up off thier lazy butts. :)

That's just it.. If people would only take responsiblity for what they eat and how they choose to workout, obesity would not be a the huge problem it is(no pun intended) I'm telling you L...I'm 150 pounds and every bit of it is due in part to 1, my laziness and 2, my negletful attitude when it comes to working out. I put it off. I'm doing much better than I was.. I was heavier and more miserable then I had ever been.( tipped the scales at 230, and I'm only 5'3! ) However when I quit blaming everyone else for my weight problem and started looking in the mirror, life got a lot easier.
